Provenance = which source contributed which field, when, with what confidence. Every value in Golden DB carries provenance. Use it to debug conflicts, audit data lineage, and decide which sources to trust for which fields.
What provenance tracks
For every field value: the source that contributed it, the timestamp it was contributed, the confidence score (if the source provides one), and any conflict-resolution decisions if this value won a conflict.
Where to see it
Open any Golden Record → click the field → the Provenance panel slides out. It shows the current value, the source, the timestamp, and the full history of changes to this field.
Why it matters
- Debugging conflicts — if a field has the "wrong" value, provenance shows which source pushed it.
- Audit and compliance — every value's lineage is traceable.
- Source quality assessment — over time, you can see which sources contributed correct values vs incorrect ones.
- Selective re-enrichment — re-enrich only fields where current sources are weak; preserve fields where they're strong.
Provenance retention
Field provenance is retained for 90 days by default. Enterprise plans extend to 1 year. Major events (record creation, identity resolution, manual edits) are retained indefinitely as part of the audit log.
