Sequences stall when they're waiting on a held draft or a reply, the mailbox is unhealthy, budget or credits ran out, or a step condition isn't met. The contact's sequence view shows exactly which step it's stuck on and why.
Check the contact's sequence view
Open the contact and view its sequence progress. It shows the current step and its status — waiting to send, held for review, paused on reply, or blocked. That status is your diagnosis.
Common causes
A draft held for review (see Review and approve agent drafts) is pausing the next step; the contact replied and the sequence correctly stopped (see Pause rules and exit conditions); the mailbox is unhealthy so sends are throttled (see Why is my mailbox marked unhealthy?); credits ran out (see Credits and usage); or a step's condition (a wait, a branch) hasn't been satisfied yet.
Fixes
Approve held drafts, confirm whether a stop-on-reply was intended, restore mailbox health, top up credits, and check step conditions. Timed waits are normal — a sequence "not advancing" is often just between scheduled steps.
Bulk stalls
If many contacts stall at the same step, the cause is systemic — usually mailbox health, credits, or a misconfigured step condition — not per-contact. Fix it once at the sequence level.
