Data Verification
What is Data Verification?
Verification is the step beyond validation. Validation checks format and rules; verification checks reality. An email can be perfectly formatted ('valid@example.com') and still bounce because the mailbox doesn't exist. Verification actually tests the value against the real world — pinging the mailbox, checking the domain, calling the phone number, looking up the company in a registry. The cost of verification is non-trivial (most verifiers charge per check) so the discipline is to verify at the right moments: at lead capture for emails, before a phone-outbound sprint for numbers, before signing a contract for company existence. Skipping verification is one of the most common causes of preventable bounces and deliverability damage.
Why it matters
- Catches format-valid but real-world-invalid data that validation misses.
- Protects sender reputation by preventing bounces before they happen.
- Improves rep productivity — no more half a day spent on disconnected phones.
Use cases
- Email verification. Every email verified at capture and again before any campaign send.
- Phone verification. Direct dials verified before being loaded into a calling list.
- Domain verification. Company domains verified to exist and resolve to the claimed entity.
