Outbound Sequencing

Outbound sequencing is the design and execution of the ordered set of touches that make up an outbound play, covering channel mix, spacing, message angle and exit conditions.

What is Outbound Sequencing?

Sequencing is the design discipline behind outbound, as distinct from any individual sequence you happen to be running. It asks how many touches, in which channels, spaced how far apart, saying what, and stopping when. The answers are less arbitrary than they look. Touch count is governed by where replies actually occur, which in most B2B programmes is the third through fifth touch rather than the first. Spacing is governed by how long a message stays useful without becoming pestering. Channel mix is governed by the persona — technical buyers are reachable by email and almost nowhere else, commercial leaders respond disproportionately on social. Angle variation is the part most teams get wrong: five touches that restate the same pitch louder perform worse than three that each try a genuinely different way in. Exit conditions matter most of all, because continuing to sequence someone who replied, opted out or booked is the fastest way to damage both reputation and brand.

Why it matters

  • Reply distribution across touches, not intuition, should determine how long a sequence runs.
  • Angle variation across touches outperforms repetition, even at identical touch counts.
  • Exit conditions are the difference between persistence and the behaviour that gets you blocked.

Use cases

  • Sequence design. Setting touch count and spacing from where replies actually land in your own data.
  • Channel allocation. Assigning the mix per persona rather than running one pattern for everyone.
  • Exit rules. Reply, opt-out and meeting-booked each terminating the sequence immediately.

How turgo helps

turgo sequences adaptively — the next touch, its channel and its timing are chosen from what the prospect just did, and the sequence exits itself the moment a reply or booking lands.
