Reverse-ETL
What is Reverse-ETL?
Traditional ETL pulls data from operational systems into the warehouse for analytics. Reverse-ETL goes the other direction — taking computed values (lead scores, churn predictions, customer-segment tags) out of the warehouse and pushing them into the operational systems where they become useful. Reverse-ETL tools (Hightouch, Census, Polytomic) emerged in the early 2020s. The strategic point: data sitting in the warehouse is potential; data flowing back to the operational stack is impact.
Why it matters
- Activates warehouse data — moves it from 'available for analysis' to 'used for action'.
- Enables sophisticated analytics models to inform real-time operations.
- Replaces a lot of custom integration work with a configurable platform.
Use cases
- Lead-score activation. Warehouse-computed lead scores pushed to CRM for routing.
- Customer-segment activation. Warehouse-defined segments pushed to marketing automation for targeting.
- Predictive-model activation. ML model outputs (churn risk, expansion likelihood) pushed to CS tools.
How turgo helps
turgo's Golden DB acts as both data store and operational layer — eliminating the need for separate reverse-ETL tools to move computed values into action.
