Prospect Database
What is Prospect Database?
A Prospect Database is the working dataset of outbound. Where the CRM holds customers and opportunities, the prospect database holds the long list of accounts and contacts not yet in any sales motion. Modern prospect databases are large (often 10x the CRM record count), continuously enriched, and tagged with ICP fit, intent signals, and engagement history. The strategic question for most teams: should the prospect database live inside the CRM or in a separate system? The trend is toward a separate, purpose-built layer — fast enough for daily prospecting work, integrated enough for downstream handoff.
Why it matters
- Separates outbound working data from CRM customer data — different systems, different needs.
- Continuous enrichment keeps records current — annual list-buys are obsolete.
- Tag-and-segment capability supports the granular targeting modern outbound requires.
Use cases
- Outbound list-building. Filter the database by ICP + signals to produce the day's prospect list.
- Account-based motions. Named-account lists drawn from the database with full enrichment.
- Long-term tracking. Prospects who don't convert this quarter stay tracked for next quarter.
